So I'll be in Frankfurt Germany for a couple weeks and then in Venice Italy for couple weeks after that. Got my plane tickets all sorted out and all that good stuff, I just need to figure out a way of getting from Frankfurt to Venice.

I'm trying to travel by rail but I know nothing of the rail systems over there. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

tl;dr = Looking for the cheapest way by rail from Frankfurt to Venice.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Also to any German DCF'ers, what are the good pubs in Frankfurt? (I'll actually be on Ramstein AFB almost entirely, so closer the better haha).

Ciao!

look at www.bahn.de and try to get a special offer, theyīre really cheap

i donīt know much about Frankfurt, iīve been there last year for a demonstration. Itīs not one of the most beautiful german cities.

And Venice is extremly expensive. But you can reach it perfectly by train, i took the train to Venice twice while on holiday in Italy. It seem like itīs driving over the sea lol.

look here
special offer Frankfurt-Bozen

get a ticket from Frankfurt to Bozen (Bolzano) Italy for only 39 Euros and then buy a ticket to Venezia there.

for booking italian tickets:
Italian trains

you can get from Bolzano to Venezia for less than 20 Euros.

I think thatīs the cheapest way Frankfurt-Venezia.

I was on holiday in Napoli this year and i paid more than 300 Euros for fuel and more than 200 Euros for Autostrada toll... and Bavaria is much closer to Italy than Frankfurt.

For Frankfurt-Bolzano book as soon as possible or all good offers will be sold out. The Deutsche Bahn sells tickets for next week cheap, next months even cheaper and tickets for today or tomorrow are expensive as hell.

If you want to swim in the mediterranean sea you should go to Lido di Jesolo. Iīve been there, itīs close to Venezia, a nice touristīs town. It also has houndreds of pubs, restaurants, cafes and hotels, itīs the best place to go out party and have fun in the Venice area.

Thanks so much Kaiser!

This is for a business trip and we're trying to plan out expenses, thats MUCH cheaper than I had first thought.

We were looking at trains for like Ģ200 or so. I forget, anyways this seems much cheaper haha.

Cheers!

OH one more question if anybody knows, What is the best way to get around Italy?

Trains are relativly cheap in Italy.

On the Autostrada unlike the German Autobahn thereīs a speed limit and unlike Germany you have to pay to drive on it there. Also car fuel is much more expensive in Europe because of the taxes.

In north Italy almost everyone speaks English, so you can easily buy tickets and ask about stuff at the stations.

Just donīt forget to book the special offer Frankfurt-Bolzano soon enough. You can also book it at a train station in Frankfurt, not only online. You said you first stay some weeks in Frankfurt, so if you buy the ticket after you arrived youīll get a cheap one, donīt wait too long.

Thanks for the response Kaiser! I'll make sure to book as soon as I get there.

As for traveling in Italy, I'm trying to figure this out.

there are going to be about five of use traveling in italy, perhaps more.

I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to travel via train or rent a car. What do you think?

i dont know about Italy, but in German there a special offers, like in Bavaria 5 ppl can travel with all public transport for 24 Euros per day (one ticket (24 Euros!) for 5 ppl!!). regional trains, subways, buses - anything.

Most countries have offers like that to compete with cars.

Maybe busses are even cheaper than trains in Italy.

Driving on the Autobahn / Autostrada is not only expensive, its also boring and you dont really get to see much. And if youre not used to driving in Europe, dont drive into an Italien city! It will make you go mad lol.

Driving into Napoli was one of the worst ideas i ever had...

the cars driving around there look worse than what we have on car dumps in Germany and they just dont care, wich is kind of cool, but not if you want your car not to look like that too or have to return it to the car rent, wich will charge you a crazy amount of Euros for every scratch.

North Italy is relativly civilised though, if you stay there it wont be too bad. Still the big cities are pure chaos. Florence was pretty bad, soo many motorbikes left, right in front, back, driving by almost hitting your car...
